What is DVS? If you are a Belleville student, you know what these letters represent. They are three women that help promote spirit at Belleville High School. The acronym DVS comes from Dronda Frydendall, Vonda Cooper, and Sandy Cole. Vonda and Sandy are Belleville alumni and all three are mothers of past BHS graduates.

Approximately 10 years ago, a student accused the ladies of being DeViouS after being caught at night in the act of hanging up the mysteriously appearing locker patches. "We originally started doing signs and locker patches in secret at night so the kids would each have a locker sign no matter what they participated in," Vonda Cooper said. Prior to the locker patches, Vonda started putting messages on the fence with paper cups during the home football games in 1994.
All students attending BHS are involved with DVS even if they don't know it. They make sure that every student gets at least three locker patches, one as a Back-to-School, one for Christmas, and a "See you next year" locker patch. DVS also acknowledges students with high achievements such as Honor Roll, Forensics, FFA, Drama, Band, Choir, NHS, and all other organizations at BHS. "We also like to let teachers and faculty know we appreciate all their dedication to our kids, their education, and their accomplishments!" Dronda Frydendall said.
When asked what the most rewarding part about being involved in DVS, Sandy said, "The warm feeling of a hug from a student because they know we care and truly love them. They are our kids, every one of them. Not just when they are succeeding or winning, but always. Hugs are the best thing any one can give me. I love to see the smiles when the kids walk into the gym and see their banners." Vonda replied "I want them to know that they matter to us whether or not they are in sports or drama or music or clubs! You are all #1! Thanks for all the fun and memories."
Dronda stated, "Kids are our future and if even one thing we've done has made one student feel better, it's been worth it! I like to think our students will go into the world ready to encourage the next person he/she meets to do the best they can because that's been done for them here at BHS by DVS."
As a BHS student I am happy to have the support from these three amazing women. It's great to have people from the community participate in all the events at Belleville High School, whether it be academics, sports, or extracurricular. They give equal attention to everyone. We appreciate their send-off parties, goodies, painted bus windows, and support that they give us.
